A cast of lowlife convicts and uptown swells sing a glorious score that blends nostalgic ballads, vaudeville, campy maximalism, and Broadway showstoppers. Bard alum Morgan Green ’12 returns to direct this kaleidoscopic, gorgeous, and utterly unconventional work, which premiered in 1965 at Judson Memorial Church—a center of the thriving off-off-Broadway theater scene—and transferred to off-Broadway in 1969.
